NEET MDS 2020: Result | Cutoff | Merit List | Counseling | Seat Allotment

MDS full form is Master of Dental Sciences. MDS is a 3 years post-graduation course after BDS that deals with the study of development, anatomy, and diseases of the teeth. Students who wish to do research related to teeth can opt for MDS after BDS. The MDS program promotes the development of critical analysis, research skills, and advanced clinical skills to improve the student in the field of dentistry. BDS graduates who wish to get admitted to MDS have to clear the entrance exam NEET-MDS conducted by National Board of Examinations.

The programs foster the development of critical analysis, research skills, and advanced clinical skills as a part of the MDS courses list that will be recognized for specialist registration post which the individual will be designated as Dental Surgeon, Dental Assistant, and other MDS jobs.

Dental Council of India (D.C.I) is the regulatory body for Dental courses and various dental institutes have to adhere to the regulations provided. The duration of the course is three years and it is career orienting in nature.


  • The result for NEET-MDS 2020 declared on 15 January 2020.


The eligibility criteria for participation in counseling towards allotment of MDS seats conducted by DGHS or State Counseling Authority shall be in accordance with MDS Course Regulations, 2017 notified by DCI with prior approval of MoHFW, Govt. of India.

 Eligibility Criteria for admission to MDS course:

The validity of the result of NEET-MDS 2020 shall be only for the current admission session i.e. 2020 admission session for MDS courses and cannot be carried forward for the next session of admissions for MDS courses.


In the event of two or more candidates obtaining same marks, the merit position shall be determined using following tie breaker criteria in descending order

    1. Candidate who has lesser number of incorrect responses in the overall paper (Part A & B) shall be placed at higher merit position.

    2. Candidate with higher score in Part B of the question paper shall be placed at higher merit position.

    3. Candidate who has lesser number of incorrect responses in Part B of the paper shall be placed at higher merit position.

    4. Failing which, date of birth of the candidate will be taken into consideration. Older candidate will be placed at a better merit position.



There is no provision for rechecking/re-evaluation/re-totaling of the

result/ mark and no query in this regard will be entertained.



a. State quota seats in All Dental Institutions in a State and seats in institutions established by State Govt., Universities established by an Act of State/Union Territory Legislature, Municipal Bodies Trust, Society, Company or Minority Institutions shall be filled by utilizing the list of NEET-MDS. No state government / private medical college/ universities including the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu & Kashmir shall be conducting any entrance exam at their own level.

b. NBE shall be providing only the data of candidates and their marks in NEET-MDS 2020 to the State Government/Counseling Authority without applying eligibility criteria, reservation criteria etc of the concerned states. State quota rank, state category rank, benefit for Inservice candidates, rural posting (if applicable) etc shall be determined/ generated by the designated agency/authority of the concerned States/UTs/concerned authority as per applicable Regulations, eligibility criteria, guidelines and applicable reservation policies.

c. NBE shall not be preparing the merit list for any State quota seats / Private Dental College / Universities.

d. Different states have different eligibility criteria and reservation policies. State Government / Counseling authorities are requested to create their own application form customized to their requirements to determine the eligibility of the candidates for opting for seats in the concerned state based on their eligibility criteria, reservation policies, benefit to in-service candidates, benefit to candidates who have undergone rural / difficult area postings..

e. NBE does not verify the information provided by the candidates during online submission of application form and hence candidature will be purely provisional subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria as mentioned in the Information Bulletin for NEET-MDS 2020& criteria of State/Universities/Institutions concerned.

f. Candidates must verify from the respective State Government/UTs if at all they will be considered for admission to State Quota Post Graduate seats/Institute Pool based on applicable Regulation and/or domicile criteria, State/Institute of Graduation, reservation policy etc. Merely appearing/passing in NEET-MDS 2020 does not make a candidate qualified and/or eligible for State Quota Seats/admission to Private Universities & Institutes.

NEET MDS 2020 Cut Off

In order to qualify the entrance examination, the candidate needs to secure minimum qualifying marks. The cut off for NEET MDS 2020 is as follows:

a) NEET-MDS 2020 rank: This is the overall merit position of the candidate amongst allthe candidates who have appeared in the NEET MDS 2020

b) All India 50% quota rank: This is the overall merit position of the candidate amongst all the candidates who have appeared in the NEET MDS 2020 and are eligible for All India 50% quota counseling and is valid only for All India 50% quota MDS Courses (2020 admission session).

c) All India 50% quota Category Rank: This is the overall merit position of the candidatein the category (OBC/SC/ST) as opted by the candidate in the NEET – MDS 2020 amongst the candidates of the same category who are eligible for All India 50% quota counseling and is valid only for All India 50% quota MDS Courses. (2020 admission session).

NEET MDS 2020 Counselling

Thre are 2 types of NEET MDS 2020 counselling. The one is for the candidates who qualify for the 50% all India quota counselling and the second is for the candidates who do not qualify for the exam same.

NBE shares the result data with the respective counselling authority and the authorities use the same for allotments of the seats via the counselling process.

Medical Counseling Commettee (MCC) conducts NEET MDS counselling for 50% All India Quota seat online at Candidates who will qualify in the NEET MDS 2020 are eligible to participate in the online counselling. Counselling for State Quota seats is conducted by the State Government. Candidates have to fill the online choices, based on which and their ranks they will be allotted seats. Through common counselling candidates can admission into all the Dental Educational Institutions in a State/Union Territory. 3. Result declared for NEET-MDS 2020 by 15 January, 2020. Result data will be shared by NBE with DGHS for onward transmission to State Governments/Counseling Authorities.

4. Merit list including category and category wise merit will be prepared by the concerned states based on applicable regulation and/or their eligibility criteria, guidelines, applicable reservation policies, benefits for In-service candidates, Rural Service (if applicable) etc.

5. Centralized counselling will be done by the concerned states for allotment of PG seats based on eligibility criteria, reservation policies, benefits for In-service candidates etc.

 {NOTE: NBE has no role in determination of eligibility for counseling, allotment of MDS seats and admission thereafter.}

NEET MDS 2020 Seat Allotment Process

The seat allotment process is done in 3 rounds. After the choices filling, MCC releases the result of the first allotment in the pdf format. The pdf carries the name of the candidates along with their allotted university / college. The process in conducted in two rounds, after the two rounds there will be no futther process for the admissions. The 3 allotments are:

First allotment – Based on choices filled in the choice filling and the rank scored by the canadidates.seats are allotted to the candidates. Candidates can check their names in the list and their allotted centre. After that, they have to appear for the verification process and other formalities.

Second allotment – In case of candidates have not applied for first-round can apply for the second round. Those who want to upgrade their seats allotted can also fill the choices for the second allotment. Such candidates do not need to register again.

Mop Up round - After both the rounds, mop up round is conducted for the vacant seats, candidates applied for the second round and wants up-gradation can also appear for this round. This will be the final round for the allotment. 

NEET MDS 2020 Document Verification Process:

After the allotment of seats candidates have to appear for the document verification process. In case a candidate fails to appear at the college or forgets to carry the documents shall not be granted admission into the course. Check the documents required for the verification process:

  • NEET MDS Admit Card issued by NBE
  • NEET MDS 2020 score card
  • Allotment Letter
  • Mark Sheets of BDS (of all the examinations)
  • BDS Degree Certificate / Provisional Certificate.
  • Internship Completion Certificate / Certificate from the Head of Institution or College

The cut-off date for completion ofBDS internship to complete the formalities shall be 31 March 2020 for academic year 2020-2021.

  • Permanent / provisional Registration Certificate issued by MCI or DCI
  • High School / Higher Secondary / Birth Certificate (Date of birth proof)
  • Valid ID Proof (PAN Card, Driving License, Voter ID, Passport or Aadhar Card)
  • SC / ST / OBC / Disabled Certificate issued by the competent authority
